As Mercer County’s only state-authorized Regional Cardiac Center, St. Francis offers the widest array of heart treatments in the county. And because we offer open-heart surgical back-up services directly onsite, St. Francis offers the safest environment in the region in which to undergo these procedures.
Some of the advanced heart procedures offered by our expert cardiologists and surgeons include:
Coronary artery bypass surgery
The St. Francis cardiac surgeon uses arteries and veins from elsewhere in the body, grafting them to the coronary artery both above and below the blocked area creating a “bypass” resulting in an improvement to the blood supply to the heart muscle.
Heart valves can be repaired or replaced. In some cases, our surgeons will have to perform open-heart surgery in order to address problematic valves. When appropriate, we also offer a minimally invasive procedure which means the surgeon can treat the patient without opening the sternum. This results in shorter hospitalization and a more rapid recovery after surgery.
Aneurysms of the heart
Aneurysms form in weakened areas of the heart and aorta, causing the arterial walls to expand and bulge outward. If an aneurysm ruptures, it can produce dangerous amounts of internal bleeding and is considered a “cardiac emergency.” St. Francis’s heart and vascular surgeons can repair aneurysms through open-heart surgery or, when appropriate, minimally invasive endovascular surgery, which offers smaller incisions and faster recovery times.
Hybrid Cardiovascular Operating Room
Hybrid labs located within the Operating Room provides a unique environment that combined the imagine capabilities of a cardiac catheterization lab with the sterile environment of a conventional operating room. It is within this lab at St. Francis, that both interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons can perform procedures separately and/or together, as a team, offering the patient with the most up-to-date technology and treatment options available.
