St. Francis Medical Center 54th Annual Gala: featuring the theme “Caribbean Nights”

With more than 400 guests in attendance, the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation held its 54th annual spring gala, featuring the theme "Caribbean Nights" at the Hyatt Regency Princeton on Saturday, June 10, 2017.

The Spirit of St. Francis honor has been presented by the hospital at its Gala since 1989. The honoree for the 2017 Spirit of St. Francis Award was the Religious Spiritual Ministry of St. Francis Medical Center. The third annual Corporate Representative Lighting the Way Award was presented to Barbara Strapp Nelson, Esq. of Stark & Stark. And the third annual Physician Healing Hands Award was presented to C. James Romano, MD, Chief Medical Officer of St. Francis Medical Center.

Honorary Chairpersons for the event were Louis G. Fares, II, MD, FACS, President of the SFMC Medical Staff; Perry A. Loesberg, MD, Vice President of the SFMC Medical Staff; and Nenita P. McIntosh, MD, Secretary/Treasurer of the SFMC Medical Staff. The Chairpersons for this event were Mr. and Mrs. Brian S. Bennett and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Moonan.

The “Caribbean Nights " themed event saw the room beautifully decorated with a colorful, island feel. A video reel ran all night with highlights of the hospital activities from the previous year. The Auction and Basket raffle raised more than $10,000 and a highlight of the evening was the drawing of the SFMC Auxiliary Super 50/50 Raffle with a prize of $14,100. The lucky winner was Ruth Tobin, an employee in the SFMC Radiology Department.

Norma Monaghan, CFRE, President of the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation said, “The event raised a net of more than $152,000 to benefit St. Francis Medical Center and we are most grateful to the friends of St. Francis Medical Center who choose to support us. Their continued commitment helps us succeed in our mission to be a transforming, healing presence in the communities that we serve.” Addressing the guests, C. James Romano M.D., Chief Medical Officer for St. Francis Medical Center, noted that" the Gala is the hospital's biggest fund raising event representing several million dollars investment since 1998. Investment in clinical programs, our facility and people is our objective. This event and the generosity of our sponsors and contributors make this investment possible."

St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health System, is an acute care teaching hospital recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures from The Joint Commission. St. Francis has also earned an "A" for its Hospital Safety Score by Leapfrog.
